Hey, who's up for some challenge? I am! I figured I'd start on some simple programs. I actually saw the link from the Healthy Tipping Point, of which I am now a new follower. There are actually five programs but only four had printable materials.
I'm starting off with the two hundred squats program. Yes, you read that right...that's 200. Sounds daunting? That's why it's called a challenge! We'll never really know if we can do it, unless we try. But why am I doing it? Did I wake up this morning and decided to torment myself? Was I hit with the masochist bug? Not really. I just wanted to challenge myself. Besides, this is also great for leg strengthening, or if you push too hard, more on leg cramping. So, resist doing too much too soon. I took the initial test, as suggested, before starting with the 6-week program today.

Not bad for a first try. I did 60 squats before I stopped, not because I'm tired but I realized I was already overboard the excellent mark (not being a show off there hehehe...just being honest). It was suggested that I already jump to Week 3 of the program but why the rush? I'll start with Week 1 just the same. Going to do this slowly, but surely.
It was a good feeling at the end of 60 squats. I felt sweat breaking out and my thighs were feeling the burn already. Like to give it a try? Visit two hundred squats to learn more about the program.
I'm taking on this challenge! Will put it up on my blog.
ReplyDeleteAileen! I can do that. I mean, used to hehe. Just dropped by to say your blog is helping me a lot in my quest for a better health. Last Saturday, I was so frustrated with my unhealthy eating that I decided, on the spot, to go on the South Beach Diet. I was talking to a hotel manager here on how to sign up with their program (and how much I will get as a discount too hehe), when she asked me if I knew this lady she works with. It turned out that this lady (we went to the same school) had a stroke and had to undergo two brain surgeries. She came out of it well, miraculously. Her boss, who is a family friend, wrote in a local newspaper that it was the Divine Mercy in action. This was a major wake up call for me, along with the news that a neighbor who is not yet even 50 died. Lorna, the one who suffered a stroke, looks healthy, by the way She is at her regular weight, for crying out loud. I think what took a toll on her health is stress. Just last November 2011, her 16 year old son was ganged up by some notorious Baguio gang and was killed, with a majority of the stab wounds on the head. I don't know what will literally kill a mother more than this, losing a son. She was personally following up leads on those gang members who remain at large and was responsible for the arrest of the others. She was doing this singlehandedly, with very little help from the police. I am really praying for her now, and I hope I can go finally on a path to a healthy life. (Sowi, sis, major kuwento na naman. haha. I am so glad I met you on this virtual world.)
ReplyDeleteOh my...that is really a dreadful thing and it can take a toll on someone's emotional health. No mater how physically healthy we are, a depressed spirit and a troubled heart can wreak havoc to our bodies. On the other hand, it's good that you are embarking on a health journey yourself. Do not be too hard on yourself sis. Just keep things at your own pacing. Just as we didn't magically turn into what we are now, what we want to be, we have to work hard and consistently on it. Wish you the best of efforts in your health endeavor
ReplyDeleteAlright! We have a taker :-) This is cool! I started today, my first day of week 1
ReplyDeleteWOW! 200 squats? Sounds daunting, indeed! Tsk. I'll try to find a way to do it. hehe. But, I am not sure.

OMG!!!! How can I ever keep up with you? (as if) Maybe in time. I'm still starting to be active again. I am having my everyday 30 mins walk. And God help me, I hope to be more consistent and in time I might run again and do this 200 squats challenge. Good luck with this challenge. And inspire us more :)
ReplyDeleteThere's more Jhari...I think my nemesis would be the sit ups...blech!

I admire your determination. I know I have maybe just 10 more pounds to lose but I'm really not doing much about it. I stopped going to the gym altogether because of work and training schedule and I'm really slacking lately. How do you keep the determination burning?
ReplyDeleteOMG! Sad to say, di ko yata kakayanin yan Aileen. Super duper hirap yan. Maybe, I'm just going back to my skipping rope sessions. Yun lang kaya ng powers ko. Hehe. But anyway, good luck to you. :) Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWow 200 squats! Good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteMommy Maye
Wow! That's really a challenge! I think I can barely make it to 20! But I'm motivating myself now to get fit.. coz im getting fat! waah!
ReplyDeleteI don't know Farida...maybe I am just on a roll hehe. It helps that I keep stumbling upon interesting things on the internet. Variety works for me. Also, it's probably because exercise gives off the feel-good hormones :-)
ReplyDeleteTaking advantage of this because time will come when I am already very old...I cannot do these things anymore (but I plan to as long as I can hehehe)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.. I'll let my hubby read your post. He's a health buff...

ReplyDeleteThis is interesting so I'm following that link you posted. I need a fitness challenge to get off the weight that's likely causing my back problem. Thanks for the info and goodluck!
ReplyDeleteWay to go girl!! you are surely more disciplined then me to keep healthy.
ReplyDeleteI kinda stepped back for a while with my eating "rehabilitation" but now I really think I can do it (and because I had a sudden eww experience with cooking pork liver). Anyway, I love how you find these "exercise challenges", I'm a PT by profession but don't really practice what I preach. *lol*
ReplyDeleteYep post the badge :) someone someday is going to take a look at that badge and be inspired to do the same :)
Now this would torture me. Haha. But yeah, quite a challenge. I've always seen squatting as a punishment, but never a challenge. You're really good. Inspiring. If I even dare to try this, the credit goes to you.

ReplyDeletewow! that would mean hard work... i dont think i can achieve it but would like try it!
ReplyDelete60 the first try? You'll do 200 within a week! -jellybelly
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that squatting also helps trim down the belly fat. Don't know if its true or not but since I love wearing skirts and shorts, I'll definitely do this one, hihi!
ReplyDeleteGo for it. For sure you can hit the 200 mark in due time.
ReplyDeleteuffta... this is quite hard exercise but healthy... good luck to you. I miss visiting the gym too... I might try one day again.
ReplyDelete200 squats! Pwedeng considered exercise na ang umakyat-baba ng underpass? XD But you did well with 60, huh? ;)
ReplyDeletebecause i am starting to workout again.. i want to challenge myself with this too! :) i can do this..
ReplyDeleteI've tried doing one hundred plus sit ups but never tried squats. Maybe I'll try this. I miss having cramps all over my body. :D

ReplyDeleteStay healthy !
Sit ups?? Ikaw na sis! Yan ang tingin ko mahihirapan ako hehehe...
ReplyDeleteYup exercise naman ang akyat-baba sa underpass...do it several times hehehe
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure also but when I do squats, my belly feels hot...so it might be true...I'll take measurements after I finish this challenge hehehe
ReplyDeleteI guess this will be easier than push ups? Hahaha! I can never go past 5 push ups! Hahaha! That goes the same for sit ups.. Need more practice.. Might just try this out! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh, love this! I'll check it out. I think I can do the dips and squats!
ReplyDeleteI always view squat as CAT (citizen's army training: kung naabutan pa ninyo) punishment. :(
ReplyDeletei wanna do the challenge too!!!!
