I cannot keep silent about the issues anymore and I'm not contented just leaving posts at their Facebook page or in various sites. I need to voice out these issues or I'll probably burst.
Remember I wrote about 7-Eleven Run 800? It was supposed to be my second 5K fun run but it didn't materialize, so far. It was originally slated last August 26, then postponed for October 14, the reason being the inclement weather has delayed works at Cavitex where the marathoners would traverse. The reason is understandable and I was actually gearing for the October 14 schedule, until another announcement was recently released. It was again postponed and re-scheduled to January 20, 2013. I would have let that pass too, except that prior to this recent announcement, there were already a lot of issues that cropped up during the process of distributing the race kits and also the refunds for those who cannot be available on the new date.
Announcements for the schedule of race kit distribution were posted on the site as well as when to claim back the registration fee for those who opted for refunds. Of course, everyone was eager to claim their race kits so they went to the respective 7-Eleven store where they registered. Most of those people were told to just come back as race kits were not yet available. Problem is, the store crews could not give definitive schedules for when the race kits will be available. To those who were fortunate enough to get their race kits, some found out that either the singlet is of the wrong color or the kit has missing items. As for the refunds, they were first coursed through LBC. Another set of new issues in there as reference numbers or names do not match. And so another thread of angry comments ensued.
If I were the race organizer, I would already have hanged myself for shame for these mishaps. If you would visit the Facebook page (I'm not sure if you have to like the page first before you can read the posts), you'll be bombarded by a lot of complaints from registrants. You'll probably chance upon my lengthy posts there as well hehehe. You could say I was one of those irate and very dissatisfied people.
Now I know this is a big event to organize and it's not an easy task at all. My main big issue is how the whole thing is being handled. To me it's important that when you give specific announcements and dates, you have to abide by that or don't announce at all. There is such a thing as being true to your words, and the race organizers are not being that transparent, in my opinion.
The second wave of refunds started last September 24, 2012, and until now, I have no idea if I will get my money back, as well as two other colleagues who registered with me way back the first week of August. In our case, a few days after we registered, the 7-Eleven store closed down for renovations. The store manager is now on invisible, unreachable mode. Where in the world would we get our refunds? Until now no arrangements were made, like forwarding it to a different 7-Eleven store. See how exasperating this is? They were quick to get our registration fees and now, they are making it difficult for us to refund them.
For those who still choose to run this race, I wish you all the best and for the organizers, I sincerely pray that you'll get your acts together for the sake of these runners who choose to stand by your word despite all the issues. As for me, I'll spare myself from all the waiting and stressful things that I and my colleagues have already gone through, trying to get acceptable answers from the organizers. I believed in the cause, and I really love to run, but I have reached the end of the line with this particular one.
I want to be a happy runner, not a grouchy one.
How disappointing! There are bigger runs than this that are well organized. On the other hand, you have more time to prepare :)
ReplyDeletethis is disappointing, i guess the organizer is not that ready yet.anyway i am sure there are lots of running opportunity that will come your way.. good luck to your running endeavor..visiting from ComEx Oct2
ReplyDeleteaawww.. i've had my shares of disappointments with that company. =(
ReplyDeleteGood thing that's not my first fun run. Thank God for Milo Marathon or I would think all races are (dis) organized in this manner. Really sis? And to think it is a big company. Sana di na lang nagtipid at Runrio ang pinag-organized...hassle free sigurado. Gusto ko na mag-amok hehehe
ReplyDeleteSis, they know this is a big responsibility...the UST fun run was handled much better nd to think, students ang organizers nun...tsk tsk...A big company like this should have come to more experienced and more professional race organizers.
ReplyDeleteStill, I need my money back hehehe...very disappointing talaga. When that store re-opens, I'm going to personally talk to the "missing" store manager. Tempted to publish the store branch here...hmmmmm
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like a disorganized company to spoil an otherwise fun event. Yes, it's good you had a good "virgin run" experience with the Milo marathon. Otherwise, your views on fun runs will have been completely jaded.
ReplyDeletehahahahhaa! cool lang cool lang... samahan kita sa pag-amok. :P
ReplyDeleteHugs for you sis! I would be just as disappointed. I hope you get your money back too.
ReplyDeleteDon't feel too bad... aren't there many other runs in Manila? Feeling so bad wouldn't help too much in the healthier lifestyle you are trekking in. :)
ReplyDeleteOct to January? Wow, that's a big gap. Hope next year it will push thru. Visiting from CommEx Oct2.
ReplyDeleteOy! Ano ba naman yan sila! :( Tsk2!
ReplyDeleteKalma lang Ate A. Ang puso natin dyan!
It's a good thing I have no access to FB these days...their fanpage is swamped with complaints from irate runners/registrants clamoring for their race kits or refunds.
ReplyDeleteSis, I have already decided not to run this race but I need my money back...that is what's stressful because like I said, the store manager is in hiding...Didn't have the decency to call back to let us know how we can get our registration fees back...
ReplyDeleteExactly sis...and the UST fun run isn't bad at all. The students handled it quite well.
ReplyDeleteAwwww! It's my first time to hear that a fun run was cancelled...Hope you get your refund.
ReplyDeleteHala ka! I would be mad too if I were in your shoes. They seriously have to get their act together. If they can't do what they promised they'll do, at least have the decency to call/ let the registrants know whats up, and not just leave them hanging there.
ReplyDeleteay nega!!! how much ang registration? if its not too much naman just leave it na lang... the stress level will not be worth it... karma na lang sa kanila...
ReplyDelete- promding chamimay oct2
I'm just on the 5K category and that's PhP450....I would probably be fuming mad if I were running the full marathon hehehe. Pero sis, kahit 100 pesos lang yun, that is my money...I could use that to register to other more worthwhile races.
ReplyDeleteay, super bad naman yang organizer na yan. halika, run ka dito, free ang fresh air hehe
ReplyDeleteI hope you will got the refund and have it for other race. although 450 lang e malaking bagay na rin yun.
ReplyDelete-visit from BCB 10/02
I need the 450 registration fee...one way na pamasahe din yun papunta dyan sa inyo hahaha! I do need fresh air. :-)
ReplyDeleteI really hope we get that back...450 multiply that by the number of registrants...am sure me and my colleagues were not the only ones who registered there.
ReplyDeleteHope that you get your refund. That is really bad management for the run.
ReplyDeleteAw! Pag may money involve and hirap talaga. I hope you will get the refund sis.
ReplyDeleteMommy Maye
yay, that is a let down...
ReplyDeletehope you get your money
450 is still money. You can even use it for other scheduled fun runs. Good luck with it sis. I hope it will soon be resolved. :_)
ReplyDeleteTsk... tsk... That wasn't a good experience, sis. Yup, sometimes, you really have to put an end to something that doesn't seem to go anywhere. Hey, that reminds me of something. hehehe... Catch my drift, sis?
ReplyDeleteAfter reading through the entry, the last line finally made me smile :)
ReplyDeleteAs participants, you have every right to express your thoughts on their disorganization. Hopefully, other organizers will learn a thing or two from this mishap.
Bull's eye sis...typical of an archer lol!
ReplyDeletePrior to the last postponement, I actually left a lengthy post sa FB fanpage nila and sabi ko if the race pushes through, they will have a lot of grouchy runners. I was still going to run sana sa October 14 but then they postponed it again, blaming the weather yet again.
ReplyDeleteaww so sad naman, ung weather kc ngaun iba na e and super tagal naman, inabot na ng next year ung marathon, cguro half hearted ang mga organizers behind this.
ReplyDeletewhy they keep on postponing? hassle pa un ganun. tsk tsk bka sa susunod cancel na event..
ReplyDeleteHi! You changed the look of your blog. It's nice! :) I haven't tried joining a fun run and I don't I'm up to it but things like this will put me off. :o
ReplyDeleteYou're definitely right Aileen! I know how you feel. I was in the same kind of situation before when my son joined a nation wide video making contest and it keeps getting postponed. It's all because of mismanagement. Should they have proper planning and great attention to details, things like that will never happen.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, just charged it to experience dear! There might be another good event waiting for you that you would truly enjoy. Good Luck! :)
don't be a grouchy runner, just join other fun runs that are really FUN.. :) have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteomg, nakakainis nga ang ganyan. at least before they reschedule this event, they should have think the weather na and other factors.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, for a company as big as 7-11, they should get this ironed out the soonest possible time. They have already caused so much inconvenience as it is. :(
ReplyDeleteThis is very frustrating noh? Hindi maiwasan na manggigil ka sa mga taong ganito, walang isang salita.
ReplyDeleteI hope issues like this can be resolve ASAP. Not a good one for the race organizer and for 7 11 as well. Bad reputation for them if this one gets to the mainstream media.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to be in the same predicament. I hope all things work out well.
ReplyDeletewell, there's really no fun in that run. parang lokohan nalang yan, so yeah, spare yourself all the stress.
ReplyDeleteHow unfortunate! I hope you can get your refund. There are still a lot of races so just keep on running.
ReplyDeleteWho was the organizer? Baka bago lang sila sa mga ganyang events so they didn't know what to do. I hope you get your money back soon.
ReplyDeletetsk tsk tsk... some organizers sometimes are not that organized. this kind of incident should not happen again. :(
