Running With PUP Students and Alumni

Last Sunday, I had a blast joining yet another 5K Fun Run. It was organized by the PUP Alumni. I did not attend school there, so I'm just another outsider joining in the fun. Most of the runners are young college students, so me and my companions were kind of out of place, and yes, feeling old already compared to the students. Maybe I'm just being paranoid that a lot of them were eyeing us, seemingly assessing if we could still run lol!

I was snickering to myself at the starting line. At gun start, a lot of students ran full speed as if the finish line was just a few steps away. Before the one kilometer mark, most of them slowed down to a walk, having spent all that initial blast of energy. I can't help remembering I was that enthusiastic also a few runs ago and like them, I ended up slowing down to a walk. Not this time. I learned my lesson already, that in longer runs, you got to plan your pacing well. So while everyone was running fast, I'm just taking it easy at my own pace.

Still, I could have done better. This is the race where I had no preparation at all, my last run being the Kislap Butil Night Race. It was a foolhardy thing to do. And so, even if my lungs could still take the running, my legs were giving up already in the middle of the run. I had to slow down the running or turn to brisk walking. Slow walking like what some where doing would be detrimental for me. I get leg cramps if my legs slow down too much so it was like a marathon-walkathon routine for me.

I did finish the race and at a shorter time than my first ever run.  However, I feel I could have done better had I prepared well.  So next time, I'm going to do just that.

I'd just like to share some pictures at the CCP Complex last Sunday:

I think I looked better than my previous fun runs.   Not too red-faced this time, considering that it was a rather warm morning and no breeze! Maybe that is also the reason why I got more tired than usual.  Yesterday, I had muscle pains in my thighs but I can still walk normally so, no harm done.  I just look at it as muscles building up hehehe.

After the run, they also had raffles and if you know my track record, I never win in raffles.  So I just enjoyed the mini show hosted by Papa Jack and Lala Bandera.  Sounds familiar?  Yep, DJ's in person.  Oh and there were booths as well.  They have this body fat analyzer and also giveaways from Sustagen.  Cool huh?

I wonder what our next run would be.  I'm excited, as always.
