Back in July of this year, I had my first ever 5K fun run with Milo Marathon. I would say that the experience with the Milo Marathon propelled me to join other fun runs in the succeeding months. Not just one person said that I was on a roll, and indeed, I am. I enjoy the freedom of running, and I figured that I will enjoy running while I still can do it. Time will come when these knees would give out, bones would already be rickety and they wouldn't be able to tolerate the abuse anymore. But I plan to prolong my running stint as long as I can, hopefully, well over my 70's. That gives me a few more decades hahaha!
Last Sunday was my 5th and final run for this year. I can't help feeling nostalgic about that. My first run was with Milo and it was also my last this year. What a perfect way to cap it off, right? And same as the first time, the energy and excitement from fellow runners is just contagious and I still felt the goose bumps as we all walked to the starting line. Cheers erupted at the crack of the gun and off we go. I took my sweet time stepping on the timing plate, hoping I'd do better this time.
Shorter time, was of course, just a wishful thinking, knowing I have not really prepared well for this run, and it sucks that I have gained weight also hahaha! But a runner's got to do what she's got to do. Just run and enjoy! And that, I did. The first kilometer was already easy peasy and I thought I was doing fine but at the 3K mark the energy just went zoinks. At the 4K mark, I was like egging myself to go on, doing a little inner cheering and pep talk, telling myself to go, go, go for the last kilometer. When you're a runner, you got to push for the goal, and that is to reach the finish line. The last 500 meters was like the hardest for me. I wanted to zoom past the other runners but my feet were like lead. Or was it the determination that's dwindling? Anyway, I walked-ran my way to the finish line and almost stomped on the timing plate for emphasis hahaha!
I did it! And I'll do it again and again. Before I crossed the finish line, I resolved to do better next time. I'll work for finishing strong, not almost crawling on all fours hahaha! All in all, I think I have come a long way, since 5 runs ago.
At some point next year, I plan to level up to 10K. I hope I can do that. But for now, I think it's time for these pair of shoes to rest from the long runs and for me to enjoy the coming holidays.
My friend (who just ran her 16k!) told me that the beginner level is the hardest. But once you've been running for quite some time it'll get easier cause your body is used to it. She told me that cause I've been complaining that I still can't finish one continues jog around the UP oval XD
ReplyDeleteI'm joining my first run too!! A 5k one! *ambisyosa* lol I'll probably walk 3/4 of it. lol
Good luck to your plan and I know you can make the 10K next year.
ReplyDeletego, go, run ms.aileen
ReplyDeletegoodluck for the 10K
woohoo! you've done it! congrats, sis. 10 k, grabe. some of my officemates go down to Manila and join marathons. Di ko pa kaya. Kalaban ko ang heat hihi
ReplyDeleteWow, that was indeed a feat! Congratulations! I am looking forward to more runs you'll be joining next year and a healthier you too. Take care :)
ReplyDeleteAileen help pls! Why do I repeatedly get this msg when I comment on other bloggers who use Disqus: "That email address is already registered with a Disqus account. Log in or enter another email."
ReplyDeleteI didn't experience this with you though.
Whao.. great to hear that you did it !! WEll done.
ReplyDeleteHmmm that's weird. Sis, baka glitch lang with Disqus because sometimes, it screws up talaga. Depende rin yan sa settings ng particular blogger eh. Nakakataka lang that they should say registered Disqus account and email when you didn't register.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You didn't give up! That's all that matters. Here's to more runs next year :) -Jellybelly
ReplyDeleteTo enjoy it and not to put too much pressure is a great way to finish the run. What you needed to beat was your personal best and not others. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to start running maybe by next year when my friend will be trasfer here in CDO. para may running mate na ako. hehe
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Running is indeed a very healthy exercise. I'd probably do that soon...running after my soon to be year-old daughter.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Looking forwarding to reading more of your running tales, specially of how you prepare for them. Much deserved rest, and enjoy the holidays!
ReplyDeleteWow, again congratulations! As usual, inggit much na naman ako... Hehe. Keep it up or should I say keep it better and better...

what I can say? Congrats to you sis.. I really envy those who can run as I have been wanting to do it as a form of exercise.. I am gaining continuesly and I am sitting in front of my netbook most of the time.. its not healthy anymore...
ReplyDeleteRunning my 1st marathon was on my goal list for this year. Unfortunately I wasn't able to join one before we left for Singapore. Plan to really accomplish this next year. =)
ReplyDeletesis, what shoes do you use pala? I really need new ones regalo ko sa sariliko
ReplyDeleteDid Cecil ran too? Ms.Aileen, I admire you for your determination and endurance. I lose my breath in such a short distance but you, 5k! galing!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! more training for 10k run next year go for it! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! I hope I can run on any marathon. Right now, I have doubts if I will be able to push through it. But that's a goal for the succeeding years to come. Good Job!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I wish i could also join some marathons here in Dubai and with my busy schedule i can't even go to the gym regularly. :-( anyway hope to read more of your adventure soon.
ReplyDeleteCongrats with the run! We all have to level and competing with ourselves is the best competition ever.
ReplyDeletecongrats for a healthier you and more run next year
ReplyDeleteCongrats Aileen. You made it for the nth time! I wish I could be like u in a way. I never tried running, not even once. Maybe that will happen when I stopped working na. Anyway, I will look up to tour posts here as an inspiration. :)
ReplyDeleteha. my 1st fun run was also in Milo. it was fun for us, but there were so many participants and i don't know. it was too crowded to run seriously. anyway, i want to go back to running already. stopped when i got pregnant and after 8 months of giving birth, i am still hoping to go back. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteLets go for the 10k haha. I also run the 5k's category and planning to make it at 10k next year!
ReplyDeleteGo for 10K! Today, we have the 11.5 K Monte Run in Zamboanga City... this is a trail run so I think quite difficult for the new runners.
ReplyDeleteMy friend started her running at the age of 50 years old but she is slim... that was about two years ago! No she runs the marathon in Penang and now in Canada! I guess the running fever really got into her.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Aileen! I wish I could join marathons too. Pero I feel pang walkathon lng talaga ako, 1k lng hingal na agad! :)
ReplyDeleteProud of you my friend for finishing 5K! Congratulations Aileen! When you said that you already felt at 4k the pain but you pushed yourself to finish the goal, that's really tough! I salute you for that. I think I couldn't do that. waah! Congratulations again! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, the starting line is always crowded. As in takbong takbo ka na, di ka pa makahirit hehehe. There's just too many participants in the 3 and 5k events, that is why when I am more fit, I'll try to do the 10 K...less runners there hehehe
ReplyDeleteWhoooeee! Hope we can do it next year! :-)
ReplyDeleteAh yes, that is indeed more difficult because the terrain is rough, not like the paved roads where I usually run. That would be more challenging.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'd like to be running even at that age and beyond hehehe. I see marathoners who are that age or even older and they are such an inspiration to me
ReplyDeleteSis, I grew up kasi knowing only Adidas for running eh so it got stuck in my brain and I know it's a brand I can trust. So that's the brand of my shoes. There are a lot to choose from nowadays naman. For newbie runners, choosing running shoes is really simple...as long as it fits well and you can run comfortably. For elite runners, it's a whole lot of science about pronation, how light the shoes are, etc etc....Wala pa tayo sa ganyang level hehehe. So as in any shoes, comfortable fit and adequate padding for shock absorption, okay na.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'd be able to do that next year :-)
ReplyDeleteI am also sitting most times in front of the computer, so I try to break the inertia by running once in a while. :-) Would be good for the heart to exercise it
ReplyDeleteThanks Momaye! I will strive for that. :-)
ReplyDeleteYup, it's hard to run in the heat....my last run, you'd think it's cold because it's December but it felt almost like summer! Ang init!
ReplyDeleteLady, how was the run? My nephew and I couldn't come to the race kasi we had unexpected visitors :-(
ReplyDelete@Sanna...I saw your comment sa comment page ng blogger, but I don't understand why it's not displaying here sa Disqus. Anyway, to answer your question, yes, Cecil ran with us, her first 5K hehehe....She ran the first 3K and walked the rest lol! But she did well. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is one thing that I love to try (sana!) But up til this time, I still haven't graduated from brisk walking to jogging. How much more running? LOL Good job for you, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI did it! I'm so proud of my sedentary self ( T-T)~ I stopped training outdoors puro treadmill so I thought hindi ko kakayanin kahit half na puro takbo. But I did! But my time was sloooow .. lol 53min :p wahaha
ReplyDeleteMy friend said kaya ko na daw yung 10k next *ambisyosa* mode nanaman. haha idk :3 gusto ko kasi sana takbuhan the whole 5k stretch. Ikaw ba when do you think is the right time to move up the level?
go lang ng go, for sure madami ka pang running event that are coming your way..good luck!!!-Singlemom Reviews
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I have a friend who ran 21K for this milo marathon. Next year kaya mo na amg10K or 21K na rin! :D
ReplyDeleteCongrats sis! It's not how long it took to finish it...so long as you finish the race..
ReplyDeleteThe decision to run on longer distances would have to be something you decide on based on your overall health. Running 10K is part of my long term goal, maybe 6 months from now, but I have to prepare for that. In 5K, I was able to run without so much preparation but 10K is another story altogether hehehe.
I know right? There's too much gap between 5k & 10k. :3 I need to train more T-T
ReplyDeleteI found a race this Feb for 6k, I might join that. Condura Skyway Marathon, familiar with it? Then sa March if I'm ready for 10k, I'll join Run United. :D
Nakaka-addict pala ang pagsali sa events :D hehe ^-^v
Run, Aileen, Run! You can do 10K next year! As for me, I'd have to work on finishing 3K first. :)
ReplyDeleteI miss running. You had inspired me Miss Aileen and I thank you for that. I'll be aiming for the 5k ( pa lang ) next year. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the logo, it made me sing the Milo ad "MILO EVERYDAY..." hehehe! claim it sis, we know you can go for it :)
ReplyDeleteCE 12/11
haha adidas was the only cool brand back then (i love those white adidas monica tennis shoes). I use Asics na worn out na ata. I have it for more than a year na
ReplyDeletei want to join marathons for this year. I kept that promise to myself but first, I need to purchase a running shoes :)
ReplyDeletenever pako nakasali sa mga marathons, dapat magpractice muna ako :p at sana matry ko din milo marathon :P haysss... kulang sa gawa :3
ReplyDeleteSis, if you're in Metro Manila, the 37th Milo Marathon is already this 28th of July. You might want to sign up, maybe kahit sa 3K for starters muna.
