In the News: Boston Marathon Bombing

I will be diverting a bit from my health topics, but as a runner, you will understand why I am posting this.

I was just browsing through posts in my Google Plus page and I kept seeing something about Boston. As I read on, I came to realize why it was trending. And minutes after reading news clips and looking at photos, and as I write this, I am still having major goosebumps. The Boston Marathon bombing happened while I was sleeping comfortably in my bed.  I didn't have an inkling that something so terrible and devastating happened on the other side of the globe.  I am so far away from the tragedy and yet I felt the anguish and fear.

I can't help but be affected by such a tragedy.  I am also thinking why there are people who would do such a horrible thing.  It just seems senseless to put innocent lives in danger.  I could just imagine what the families are going through right now, particularly of those who lost someone or had a member of the family seriously injured.  At least two lost their lives and around 90 or more persons were injured as of latest reports.

You could read up on the details in some of these links:

I still don't know what the impact of this incident will be to running events in the future, but I hope that organizers would double up their security.  It seems that it was just a convenient target, knowing a lot of people are in the marathon event.  It was just one of the targets, as reports say that there were at least 2 more bombs that did not detonate on different locations around Boston.

I hope that whoever is responsible for this would be caught soon and quoting the press release from the White House: "...Any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice."

Let us just pray for Boston, that the people will get their justice and that they could move on from this tragedy and not be constantly gripped with fear.

  8. I guess Boston marathoners will always remember this event, but I doubt that it will dampen the strength of the human spirit. I guess they will just have a deeper purpose for continuing this marathon.

  12. Super kawawa nga yung 8yo boy na namatay. Like what I read on Twitter, this tragedy can forever instill fear on the minds of children regarding running marathons.

  16. I have no words to describe how evil this act of killing defenseless, innocent people is. It's like they're filled with the devil's spirit. Same goes for terrorists. May God always be with all of us wherever we go, whatever we do.

  23. This is such a devastating news. A dear friend of mine was 1 block away from the scene. And she and her friend was about to go where the 1st bomb took place because they wanted to buy something, like a souvenir shop. But then they heard the bomb, and ang mala Quiapo-Divi-Caloocan act daw ng friend ko "tulak mode" biglang umariba. Then run fast that they didn't imagine that it took them 4 blocks away from the scen in less than 10mins. But good thing they are both safe. God will be the one to take revenge for the 3 people who lost their lives on that day :(

  29. My opinion regarding this bombing incident is that who ever is behind this wanted to say or send a message or something because if the main purpose is to make it terrifying the bombing should have been done right at the gun start.

  30. For sure this incident will tighten up more the immigration security of the US. People who do this kind of act must be stopped and put into jail without bail.
