Of Running and Swimming

I had a good run last Sunday. I was able to extend my running time to an hour. Usually, it's just a 30-minute run-walk-run routine but despite the heat and humidity, I was able to last for an hour. The sun was already high up at 6 am so it's really getting hotter by the minute.  I thank God for the intermittent breeze that helps cool me down.  I was aiming to run for 1.5 hours minimum but the heat is already getting to me, so I had to wrap it up already.

So why was I pushing for a longer running time?  Well, last week, we already signed up for Run United 2.  Nothing new there right?  Except that this time I will try to level up to 10K.  Yes, I signed up for the 10K run!  Crazy huh?  I thought so, considering how I fared during my last 5K run.

The NatGeo Earth Day Run last April 28 was by far my worst run, I think.  I was lacking in practice, I was out of focus, my left knee was acting up, my bunion was aching, I needed to pee, and it was a freakin' hot morning!  I was already tired after running for just 5 minutes!  I was beginning to wonder how I would finish that race.  I don't know how it happened that I finished the run in 41 minutes and a few seconds.  I must be a fast walker then because I think I walked more than I ran.  I thought it would take me at least an hour at my pace.  At some point, I could already see the finish line but it felt like it was moving away from me hahaha!

All the while during that run, I was just imagining myself plunging in a cold pool.  I even joked around with my running buddy who caught up with me near the finish line that I would probably shift from running to swimming full time.  Of course I was just kidding.  I have not yet reached my cap point with running to give it up just like that.  I'm just feeling the effects of humidity.  But to be fairly honest, I am loving the feel of water these days and my enthusiasm has shifted to swimming.  When I started my swimming lessons, I knew I was meant for water all along.  After all, I'm a Piscean lol! (not that I really believe in that stuff).

Oh well, I'm not really at that point where I have to make a choice between running and swimming.  As long as I can do both, I'll divide my time between the two and enjoy the best of both worlds.

  1. Congratulations for finishing your 5K run in 41 minutes and a few seconds. Just like you I walk faster that I was able to finish it less than an hour and I am glad that you will now level up to 10K.

Really looking forward to that day when we will bump into each other while joining the same fun run .

I guess you can do both swimming and running. That'll give you a break from routine. So, will you join KOTR? I'll be running 10k for the first time :). Let me know how it turns out for you at RU2 :)
