A few months ago, I've been pondering on whether I should stop drinking coffee. Truth be told, I have not stopped and I'm still enjoying my morning (and even afternoon) brew. Some say they could not live without the caffeine fix. I guess if it has turned into an addiction, that could be true. I would say I can still stop taking coffee if I need to. But that is something I still have to establish. Of course, I will not be immune to the withdrawal symptoms also. I know for a fact that I will have headaches for a couple of days and studies validate that.
Right now, I only skip drinking coffee in the morning when I have a scheduled early morning run. It's not because it is a known stimulant. I think my body could handle that even if I have hypertension. The thing is, coffee is a diuretic for me. I don't like interrupting my runs with trips to the restroom. Twice, I had to endure holding the water in during 5K runs and that is quite a feat considering how each time the foot hits the pavement, my bladder keeps reminding me lol!
Like what is always said, moderation is the key. Just the right amount and you'll get the optimum results. Overindulging, however is countering the health benefits. For instant coffee, 5 cups would be my maximum but I usually have just 3 cups. If it's brewed coffee, only two cups of that for me or my heart would have palpitations, since it has more caffeine content.
I still have to learn to love tea as much as I do coffee. But honestly, tea is just like heated water to me lol!
Here's an infographic I'd like to share with you, whether you're a coffee or tea drinker. Go ahead and get a cup of coffee or tea while you read this.

I love coffee and I also have learned to love green tea. But for now I have to skip them until next year. :)
ReplyDeletei am a social coffee drinker if there is such a thing... i only take coffee on weekends or only when i need a boost of energy. i tend to palpitate kasi even with just a cup and i get scared when that happens. :)
ReplyDeleteafter an end with the call center job, i made a way to stop taking caffeine...i got ulcer kasi...the infographic is great
ReplyDeletehindi ako habitual coffee drinker. i only drink when i feel like it. pero yeah... i still prefer coffee over tea anytime.
ReplyDeleteDaddy is taking coffee with less sugar kasi it helpes lower sugar daw because it is bitter. Although bitter gourd is the best..he prefers coffee but in moderation too
ReplyDeleteAs much as I want to take in coffee or tea, I can't. One like you it has diuretic effect on me and second, I have hyperacidity. So I just drink in moderation lang every morning.
ReplyDeleteMommy Maye
Yup, it does not sit well with hyperacidity.
ReplyDeleteGood to know there still good benefits that we get from coffee! Hehe! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd for tea, I'm glad I've started drinking it few months ago! :)
My new target now is, to start drinking milk! :)
I've been trying to minimize sugar also because the sugar defeats the purpose of it being a healthy beverage (in moderation)
ReplyDeleteI get palpitations when I exceed my daily limit, more so when it's brewed coffee
ReplyDeleteI'm an occasional milk drinker lang :-)
ReplyDeleteI drink neither of the two. Like you, I find the taste of tea hard to like. Parang boiled water lang talaga haha. I don't have tolerance for coffee either. One cup lang palpitate na ako! I stick to my milk and Milo haha :D
ReplyDeleteI am not a coffee or tea drinker but I used to drink a lot of both but I dont like that they stain my teeth!
ReplyDeleteDoes tea also stain teeth? I thought it was only coffee...still, that does not deter me hehehe...
ReplyDeleteMy stomach is not used to milk kasi. And Milo is too sweet for me. Once in a while maybe. But coffee is my daily thing. :-)
ReplyDeleteNaku I'm a fan of coffee. Worry not about stain, just brush your teeth with baking soda nalang hehehe!
ReplyDeleteangaling! i had fun reading this post and i like how infographic presents :) I love coffee but im trying to just limit myself for 2BIG cups a day and im embracing the love for tea na rin!
ReplyDeleteWhen I started working at the call center industry I used to drink 3- 4 cups of coffee at work. When I started having heart palpitations I was advised to lessen my coffee in take. So now I just have one cup of coffee at work and at times I can survive not drinking coffee at all during my rest days. As for tea I am not really a fan of it. I am cereal fanatic though which usually pump me up before my early morning run or exercise at the park.
ReplyDeleteYou amaze me, Ms. Sarah. Imagine, going for an early morning run when you're mostly on night shift if I'm not mistaken. Such energy :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm not bothered by the teeth stain hehehe...
ReplyDeleteI was lecturing my husband while reading your post. He is an avid coffee drinker and we are both relieved because he only consumes 3 cups of coffee daily,so within the limit pa dba? Good to know.
ReplyDeletei'm not really a coffee drinker, i prefer tea paminsan minsan. and about the heated water, when i was still employed and pregnant, i was often teased by my officemates because at times, i would drink heated water. hahaha! i don't know, it helps me feel relaxed, just like drinking tea. btw, infographic really are very useful noh? thanks for sharing this! :-)
ReplyDeleteI like coffee most of the time, kasi I feel weird when tea is creamy, hehe! But drinking tea, especially after an oily meal, feels very nice. :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't drink coffee at all and drink tea most of the time.. I like green tea too.. I guess being moderate is the key.
ReplyDeleteI learned to drink coffee when I worked in the call center industry. Lahat ata ng instant nasubukan ko but nothing beats the aroma and taste of brewed. However, due to my disability, my kidneys were affected. Stubborn lang ako that I continue to drink moderately these days. Our kidneys find it difficult to filter any dark colored drinks and yes, coffee is diuretic. I still drink it but sobrang limited na lang :(
ReplyDeleteBtw, thanks for responding to my query. I'm planning to change the look of my blog. I don't know how lang, haha!
I barely drink coffee. Sometimes, it' more of napipilitan lang when my stepmom made me one in the morning. I prefer frap instead..
ReplyDeletei love coffee, and i just drink 1 to 2 cups a day
ReplyDeleteYou know what, I turned into a coffee drinker recently. Medyo d kaya ng tea ang stress sa workload eh. Hahah! :) At least, coffee has good benefits too.
ReplyDeletei guess a lot of bloggers are coffee addict and i am one of them..
ReplyDeleteThanks for this infographic. Once I felt palpitations after havign a cup of coffee, I switched to tea. But now I am again trying to have a cup of coffee when I feel sleepy. Good news, I never had palpitations anymore.
ReplyDeletecan't drink too much coffee and tea because of I usually suffer palpitation after (i don't want to rushed myself again in the emergency in the middle of the night) but a cup of coffee every morning helps me boost my energy.
ReplyDeleteI miss coffee..I'm skipping coffee for a while..
ReplyDeleteI always start my day with a cup of coffee. Can't be fully awake without it. LOL... With tea, I drink it occasionally. I especially like the oolong team and those Lipton orange tea. :)
ReplyDeleteinteresting. nacurious ako sa Dolong tea
ReplyDeleteMarami naman palang benefits ang coffee. Kaso I really can't stand it, I tried tea, it still has caffeine din pala that's why I was still a bit dizzy after. I added some milk to it, and I think I like it better.
ReplyDeletewow! i love this.. im now 100% tea lover.. hehehe XD the perks of drinking tea , for the win! :)
ReplyDeleteDaddy loves drinking the Mc Do coffee. Not naman everyday, magastos eh. but whenever he got the chance..Mc do coffee siya.
ReplyDeletehmmm... i can't really decide which i prefer best. i am no heavy coffee or tea drinker kasi. but maybe between the two, i tend to lean more towards coffee. medyo bland kasi yung lasa ng tea for me kahit na flavored siya.
ReplyDeleteI can go without coffee although this past month, I've enjoyed a cup of instant cappuccino per day.
ReplyDeleteI have to have coffee with my breakfast but I'm not addicted. I think :) I like the 3-in-1 kind. My favorite is Good Day coffee cool-in flavor. It's minty. I drink green tea sometimes but I prefer coffee.
ReplyDeleteThe caffeine in the coffee can help ease asthma attacks.
ReplyDeleteI hope this is true.
Thanks for the info.
