Running in My Saucony Guide 5

A lot were asking me about my new running shoes.  And a lot were also saying that it's the first time they heard of the brand.  Honestly, if I had not been into running, my brand vocabulary would be limited to Adidas and Nike.  Between, the two, I would always go for Adidas in a heartbeat.  That's just me.  I have nothing against the other one and might actually try it sometime.

As a running enthusiast, I believe it is also good to test out other running shoe brands.  So I am starting out with Saucony.  In the future, I'd like to have my feet in a pair of Asics, Mizuno, Merrell, and Skora.  But that's getting ahead of myself, and my budget hahaha!

Last week, on a Tuesday, I got to try out my Saucony pair for the first time.  Like any shoes, it takes some getting used to.  Since I have only the Adidas before, that's the only one I could compare it with.  The Saucony Guide 5 feels lighter.  And as I pound on the pavement around Ayala Triangle, I noticed a slight difference.  With the new running shoes, I could feel the ground more, meaning it has probably a thinner padding compared to my old shoes.  So that's probably why it felt lighter.  But despite that, it still gives me ample support.

I took the pair for another run last night, after office hours.  This time, I  also noticed that the shoe design is actually correcting or compensating for my slight pronation, as it tries to stabilize my gait.  I think that's great for protecting my ankle and less stress on the bunion in my left foot.  Don't ask me how I got that, but it was from a long time ago, not from all the running.  The bunion could act up sometimes, and could feel painful during long runs.  The mesh material of the shoes gives my bunion some breathing space so it doesn't feel like my left foot is being strangled.

I'd be honest, I am far from being a running shoe pro reviewer.  So I would spare you the technicalities (for now as I am still learning the ropes).  I'd just like to say that it is a joy to run in my new Saucony pair.  The lighter weight is a big plus and sometimes, during the run, I forget I was wearing them.

I can't wait to wear them for my next 10K run.  The 37th Milo Marathon is going to be on the 28th of this month.  So for all of you who would like to join, I think registration is still on-going for the Manila race.  Hope to see you there!
