I'm {Not} Running Today

Source
It's exactly a week now since my last run.  I guess I have a perfectly good excuse with the weather.  While I do love running under light rain, and I could probably go as far as soaking-wet rain, it's not exactly safe in this current inclement weather, with a tropical storm in tandem with the southwest monsoon.

A lot of streets are flooded and even if there are flood-free streets, the road is quite slippery and one wrong foot landing could spell injury.  So here I am, just watching whether the rain would let up a little, have a breather for our drainage and flood ways to suck in all those flood waters.  I guess I have to be contented with doing squats and jumping jacks for a while.  But seriously, it's just nice to curl up and sleep like a baby.

I guess I'm not the typical running fiend who runs in all kinds of weather.  I love running, but I also like to do it in safe conditions.  Right now, it's best to stay at home rather than add up to the people who needs to be rescued from the floods.

Heavy rains are still expected in the next couple of days, although I'm praying that it will finally cease sooner than expected. There is a time for everything...and now is the time to stay indoors and be safe from nature's fury.

Still, for those whose feet are itching to have a good run even in this nasty weather, here's a useful link for Tips for Running in the Rain.

So, stay safe everyone!

  3. I can imagine how some die hard runners are getting really antsy with the weather. I'm like that too when I can't play badminton. I hope the rains stop soon. I can't imagine how those affected are coping.

  7. My running buddy/office mate is also into badminton regularly and does get antsy when she can't play. Unfortunately for me, my knees hurt from the jerky foot works, and besides, medyo expensive with the court fees, equipment, and attire lol! Running na lang ako.

  9. The rain is depressing because it has damaged so many properties and killed many people (and I really feel guilty because I am enjoying the sound and the cool breeze it brings). Nonetheless, I too am praying that it will soon stop and I'm sorry that you had a non-to-good experience with Ondoy.

  27. Yeah, that weather last week was not a good one to go running. But have you tried running while it's raining (the normal kind)? It's fun actually. :D

  28. with weather like this, you can run outside but there are alternative exercise that you can do indoor. or if you really like running, you may try enrolling in gym and do treadmills..

  31. Better stay safe than be sorry later. You can do strength exercises for your muscles. It complements running.

  32. The rain ( or typhoon) is always a nice excuse to sleep in and cuddle with pillows and blanket. But you know I have always wanted to run in the rain, it seems fun.But I am afraid of getting sick after.

  33. One recommendation is to have skipping rope instead of running during rain.

It's good that you stayed home sis, right decision! Nabaha kami sis, huhu! Pero compared to Ondoy and last year's flooding, mas okay na to, though inabot pa din po loob ng house namin, waaa!!! But we're back to normal sis, and thanks to our Lord!
