An extreme case of laziness has overcome me since typhoon Maring and the southwest monsoon. Bad weather was a perfectly good excuse to stay indoors. As I don't have a treadmill and I cannot do jumping ropes (my left knee can't take it...another convenient excuse) the only thing I've been doing in the interim is squatting. I am back to that, but not to do any more challenges for now less I injure my left knee again. I'm simply squatting as much as I can on alternate days. I think I only managed three days before stopping again lol!
Last Sunday though, there is no escaping my running buddy. To say that I am just plain lazy is embarassing so I went with her. She knows me so I got to have a very plausible excuse and so far, the only acceptable excuses are when I'm sick or injured, going home to the province over the weekend, or a tropical storm is in our midst. Last Sunday, it just drizzled, not enough to deter my more determined running buddy. So off we went, but there was a big crowd that time and we just found out there was this Global Walk. For a runner like me, I felt like I was watching a procession. And indeed, it was. I was hoping it would at least be a walkathon but it's not. Anyway, we just let them pass by and do their own thing. I just feel they are partly to blame for depleting the supply of taho and I was so much hoping to get a hot cup of it. Boohoo! Oh well, maybe next time.

We were able to run for about 30 minutes only. I already got tired, having been cooped up too long. My legs were still okay but my lungs were already bailing out. It wasn't a good run , but at least I am up on my feet again. Still, I am feeling sulky over the taho lol!

So to make up for a not so good run, we had a go at it again last night at Ayala Triangle. I still wasn't in the mood for the run and for the first 20 minutes I was out of it. I was paying more attention to the wet pavement, careful not to slip because it drizzled again. Before that I was hoping for rain just so we wouldn't push through anymore. I know...my bad!
Anyway, after going past the 30 minute mark, I finally got the hang of it. My legs were running on their own volition hahaha! Nah, actually I was already enjoying the run. I ran-walked-ran for a total of 55 minutes. My fingers got puffy and red again so I figured, I've had a good run already and it's time to cool down and stretch those taut muscles (what muscles?).
Yay for me and thanks to my persistent buddy. If it had been only up to me, I'd be running in my dreams instead of working out my almost lethargic muscles (or it's probably just in my mind). Sometimes, you just have to break the inertia.
That's one physical activity that I like besr- running. It is exercise for the body and mind.
ReplyDeleteMy running buddy is not yet here so that's the reason why I always have an excuse not to run outside sis, waaa!!! I wish hubby is always here, hehe! You are lucky sis, palagi andyan ang buddy mo, hehe! Pero sis, di mo po talaga ako mapatakbo kahit pag umaambon lang, feeling ko magkakasipon at ubo ako, waaa!!!
ReplyDeleteSis, thanks for always visiting my blog whenever I have a new post, you are always my number one commenter, appreciate it much, mwah! Take care always sis! :)
Sis buti nga kayo daming oval tracks malapit sa inyo eh...magpayong ka pag umuulan hehehe. Why not invite your eldest...am sure the little girl will also like to run. :-)
ReplyDeleteTrue...they say running is the cheapest from of therapy.
ReplyDeleteHere's the test of life for you gurl. But I'm glad that you still tried your best to run that day :) Pag hindi na talaga kaya, pahinga muna sis :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Ikaw na talaga Ate!! :) I haven't run for a month now. Been tied up with office works and puyatan. Nakow! Sana magkaron ang running buddy na kagaya nyang sayo Ate!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing you have a running buddy. I was thinking of having a walk this afternoon but decided against it - na-highblood kasi ako this morning and didn't want to relapse or feel drowsy and not have someone with me (did I just make excuses?!). Anyhoo. You'll be back on the groove in no time.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing more inspiring than a running buddy, or even like a companion that share same interest with you. I wish I could do some exercise sometime.:)
ReplyDeletei hope the weather cooperates so you could get back to your usual running form, if you haven't yet. hihi
ReplyDeleteThere are several groups who run regularly pala and with this scenario, I guess your former feeling will soon dissipate :) I commend you all guys for your efforts! Umulan or umaraw, takbo pa rin. Sis, don't forget to use sunblock ha?
ReplyDeleteI hope to have a running buddy by next year. Si hubby? malabo he don't like running..
ReplyDeleteIkaw na talaga, sis! I want to go back to my fitness routine (ideally kasi I should work out everyday...)but the weather is not cooperating lol (p.s. how did you get your custom domain cuz blogger does not have an option for it na?
ReplyDeleteHi Aileen,
ReplyDeleteHope you're doing well.. I've been away so I might have missed the post on typhoon? Good to read that you are making effort to run again. Keep it up. Glad to be back.
Eliz
Good thing you enjoyed the run. It is really a huge help if you have buddy in your fitness routine. I need to invite boyriend na nyan! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! If I was in your shoes, I would have probably just enjoyed the bed weather! :) Kulang talaga ako sa motivation and self discipline. :(
ReplyDeletei persistent running buddy is all i want to get back to my run-walk-run
ReplyDeleteyou're lucky to have a good running buddy that is what i need, a persistent jogging buddy.. it may sound a lame excuse but it's true.. anyway i hope your knee is better now
ReplyDeleteGreat to have a runny buddy to keep you exercising constantly. Way to go.. I too have many excuses for not exercising.
ReplyDeleteAileen, now that you mentioned it on your post, I remember having puffy and red fingers too whenever I do something strenous (jogging ang jump roping), so I assume that is normal?
ReplyDeleteYes it is normal...but it also means you got to relieve the pressure there. You could just put your hands above your head and shake them up, even if you continue to jog or jump rope...until the swelling subsides.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's more tricky now to set up the custom domain (tricky for me at least hehehe)
ReplyDeleteHi Eliz! Good to see you too. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou got to take it easy sis when you have high BP...it is a good excuse btw. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, like today, I have to skip my scheduled run...it's that time of the month hehehe
ReplyDeleteYou might not realize it, but you're actually a lot more disciplined than many other people - including me! Kudos to you!
Can you suggest a quick exercise for that? TIA!
ReplyDeleteMommy Maye
Congrats for trimming down the tummy area. Problem is sagging skin talaga when you lose considerable weight. They always say to go for crunches and sit ups but unfortunately those are the exercises I dislike the most. Try mo kaya belly dancing? hehehe...But if you push through with Zumba, that would be a good way to burn and tone at the same time, I think.
ReplyDeleteUu nga sis. Hope we can start it na. Thanks
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to physical fitness, it's you I have in mind immediately. You are so active and happy with what you do. God bless!
ReplyDeleteEventhough I want to exercise hindi pa pwede eh, biruin mo sa office I don't take the stairs as in nag e.elevator ako kahit sa 2nd floor lang and office.. hehehe
ReplyDeleteI admire you for your determination! I feel sad, too, that you did not get your most desired cup of hot taho! LoL! I love taho, especially when it's really, REALLY hot.
ReplyDeleteit's really nice to surround yourself with people that can influence you to do the good things in life noh, like running. hihi! good thing your buddy is so persistent. sayang lang, ubos taho, hihi!
ReplyDeleteYeah, buddy system really works, especially for activities such as exercises. Kasi pag wala tatamarin ka hehe.. Keep at it! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are indeed lucky to have a persistent buddy. :)
ReplyDeleteyou are very lucky to have a running buddy indeed. aside from time, i think that's what i need to jumpstart my fitness routine. but yeah, excuses for now. hehe!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :-)
ReplyDeleteOops! I'm still logged in as my WordPress blog. Will log out and change it back to blogger. It's still me.

You've got a great buddy who helps to motivate you into doing something worth it. Talaga naman pag napostpone ang activity, minsan nakakatamad na.
ReplyDeleteUntil now, I haven't done running...wala kasi talagang place sa amin...Jumping rope naman ako every afternoon...
ReplyDeleteI also still haven't started running!!! Now, we have the Zamboanga Crisis and so all the more!!!!
