I just had the annual physical examination that is done yearly in our company. It's the usual thing: taking blood pressure, physical exam of the breast and abdomen for women, chest x-ray, a bit of interview on medical history, eye examination...that's about it.
My blood pressure is still at 130/90 and the nurse did a double take (I almost rolled my eyes lol!). She didn't expect it from me since she said I look lean. Well, it's not just about the visible body fat that determines that,as we all know. I told her that's even lower than I expect. Anyway, I think I need to double my efforts to lower that down, considering that I am already on regular maintenance, taking Losartan. I don't think I could do away with my hypertension medicine if I can't bring down those numbers to 110/70. That still remains my goal and I'm not giving up that fight. I don't want to be dependent on drugs all my life, and besides, that only controls the blood pressure but it doesn't prolong my life in any way. At least that's what I read about these medicines.
I guess I need to get a good kick in the butt regarding that. Extra efforts are in order. I hope a year from now, I'll be able to get that target blood pressure. That's the time I'll have another chit chat with our company doctor...maybe convince him to get me off the meds. But first things first...get those number down.
Here's to the best of efforts!
And yet, you are already active sis... yeah, I pray you'll reach your desired BP soon. Take care!
ReplyDeleteIt's a tricky business, really. Need more effort to undo some wrong habits and swim against my genes hehehe.
ReplyDeleteNot yet as active as I should be...there is still room for more improvement. :-)
ReplyDeleteaileen have you heard of quantumin? my parents and i are taking it. it's a miracle drug that can help control your blood pressure among others. let me know if you're interested.
ReplyDeletewhen i was working, i'd get the urine of my mom for the sample coz i always have uti. the trick lang pala is to drink much water.
I think I've heard it from you several posts ago, sis :-) Do you have a website I could check out?
ReplyDeleteGo girl you can do it!
ReplyDeleteI am surprise and did not expect you are drinking medicine for maintenance. I hope for your good health always. God bless.
ReplyDeletei hope you get your desired number, aileen. stay healthy. korek, mahirap nga yung dependent tayo sa meds for maintenance, dapat talaga healthy, I know you can make it, considering your determination and discipline, di malayong maabot mo yan. goodluck! :-)
ReplyDeleteGo Aileen! Have you heard of Usana Health Sciences? It's food supplement but there are many testimonials that say it works.
ReplyDeleteI hope everything will be normal na with your BP sis. So does this mean exercise can't really lower BP?
ReplyDeleteUy I was surprised! Like Marie, I'm wondering hindi ba nakakababa ng BP ang exercise?
ReplyDeleteSis, my case is essential hypertension..something with the genes. If I don't exercise, I'll be gone earlier than my time hehehe. My doctor supports my running endeavor and encourages me to have a more active lifestyle, and eat real foods. I guess, I just need to push myself harder...because I do backslide.
ReplyDeleteAt the moment you exercise, the BP rises...it has to, like in any strenuous activity...but it has to go down after being well rested. Exercise is not just for lowering blood pressure...actually it's for cardiovascular and muscular strength too.
ReplyDeleteHope your BP will be normal. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Annual Check Up, I haven't got mine yet. I think I need to visit the doctor once I have time.
ReplyDeleteHealth is wealth. Sometimes we think we are healthy, but we really are not! I personally still have to do my part in taking care of my health! (Imagine, we are in the healthcare industry!)
ReplyDeleteI heard that taking fish oil before going to bed will help lower those numbers. (Natural medicine). just like you, one of our colleagues has also high numbers in terms of blood pressure but when you look at him, he used to be lean too. I think it is because of high sodium content. Mahilig kasi sya sa mga chichiria like cornik.
ReplyDeleteMy aunt is on losartan too. I hope you are able to manage your blood pressure. I recently got my blood sugar and cholesterol checked. Thankfully, both are within the normal level. My only problem is my weight.
ReplyDeleteWe had our APE last month and so far everything is normal. But this doesn't mean I will stop my daily exercise routine. That's because I also want to shed more pounds :)
ReplyDeleteIt's manageable and I conceded with the maintenance because I take it every other day and at the lowest dosage possible. :-)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Annual Check-up wala pa pala schedule namin sa office November na.. hmmm kailan kaya?
ReplyDeletei hope this helps :)

Done na din kami ng APE so far okay nmn. I hav an ofismate na mataas din BP khit hindi nmn sya matakaw..hindi kaya dahil sa stress din yan?
ReplyDeletei don't look overweight but my cholesterol and blood sugar are both over the maximum limit. *sigh* i just knew my junk food binging would soon come to this. time to cut back now. i hope you are able to lower that bp down soon :)
ReplyDeleteI think my cholesterol may be shooting up a bit...just a hunch hehehe...but blood sugar has always been normal with me. At least sis, you know the causes so you can do something and it's a good thing you're into Yoga.
ReplyDeleteThanks sis! I'm still deliberating on this but the testimonies are convincing.
ReplyDeletePlease don't be hard on yourself. You are keeping fit and doing the best you can. Genetics play a role and as long as you keep up the good stuff you will continue to be stronger health-wise.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Eliz
