Fast forward to today. I have entered the golden years. I gained weight, did less activities. Who am I kidding, I've regressed to being a couch potato once again. And so, it's not only my age that increased, but a lot of those stats that were supposed to be kept in check. Like what? My blood pressure for instance. I remember targeting the perfect score of 110/70 mm Hg. Instead, I have been consistently registering 140/90 and that is on a good day. That goes up a bit and at my age, I should really take a step back and take stock of things. After all, I am not getting younger, physically.
Three days ago, I went to visit my new friend, the Cardiologist. I had to, so I can get a fit to work clearance. Aside from that, I seriously needed to do something about my consistently elevated blood pressure plus other elevated thingies like my blood sugar, cholesterol profile, creatinine, etc. etc. The numbers don't lie and I am now reaping the fruits of my un-labor. I had it coming. Good thing is that, like before, we can still do something, turn things around.
Aside from my Cardiologist, I also consulted with a Pulmonologist last week. Years of sedentary lifestyle has also taken a toll on my lung. I have atelectasis of the lower left lung based on my recent chest x-ray. I probably had it for months as I was always catching my breath after exerting myself a bit. The Pulmonologist gave me a set of exercises to start with as I need more cardio exercises. It's like an attempt to blow more air hoping my atelectasis can still be reversed or at least stop it from progressing further.
So, my dear friends, I need to act on this while I still can. I have three months to show progress or I'll be stuck with medications which I do not want.
On the bright side, I love a good challenge. It gives me new purpose. So, bring it on!
